The challenge
Pelagos is a Turkish company, which used to operate solely in Turkey. They produce and sell a rich variety of pet foods. Recently, they became aware of the opportunities to sell their goods on the European market. However, they did not have the necessary means to do it. Here is where Yeye comes in.
The solution
Plan: We conducted a research on the best way to enter the European market with the least possible investment and risk. The most efficient way to enter new markets as a pet food importer turned out to be via E-Commerce. After our market search, we agreed on starting in UK. Amazon UK was chosen as the first online platform for the pilot project. Pelagos was responsible for handling production and export duties while Yeye arranged everything else such as transportation, import duties and finding distributors.
Implement:At the exporter side, Pelagos was responsible with preparing export documents for the products, such as invoices, ATR1 certificate, declaration, health certificate and insurance and handled the customs in Turkey.
CH Robinson was selected as the forwarder. The main reason for working with CH Robinson is that they are one of the key partners of Amazon for transportation. It was reasonable to work with a company which got approval from Amazon.
Instead of arranging the warehouse and inbound logistics with a third-party company, Amazon’s fulfillment service was used to meet our warehousing and customer support needs. This was a practical and cost-effective move in order to tackle these issues conveniently. Pelagos prepared the necessary export documents and we handled the rest. We used our subsidiary (Yeye Slovakia) for buying and reselling the products, as it was financially advantageous.
The Result (Growth)
Right now, their products are listed in Amazon UK and being sold continuously. Later on, their products distributed to other countries that Amazon is active in, like Germany and France. This project did not just increase their sales, but also let them expand to more than one country. We are currently working on increasing their market share by enlisting them on new online stores. Last but not least, a web site has been developed for their market expansion in Czech Republic.
